Description: This is a pleasant walk through mostly open countryside alongside the River Chess from Chorleywood Common to Chesham town centre. It is an unusual walk in that we walk 7.5 miles from our starting point on Chorleywood Common to the train station in Chesham, catch a Metroploitan Line train from Chesham back to Chorleywood and then finish off with a 1 mile walk across Chorleywood Common to get back to our cars.
There is a café and toilets right at the start of the walk and several cafes and toilets in Chesham town centre, but there are no other facilities other than trees and bushes in between these points.
There are a few short gradients but the walk mostly follows a gently sloping river valley.
Underfoot is a mix of earth and gravelled paths, some of which might be a bit muddy if there has been recent rain.
Please bring a packed lunch and something waterproof to sit on as there are no conveniently sited seats en route. We will be having our lunch whilst sitting on a grassy bank overlooking the river.
Getting there: Travel to the start will be by cars. As usual, please organise car-share arrangements via the Walking Group WhatsApp. Click on car share locations to see the usual pickup points.
Park at the Chorleywood Common Car Park at 10.00. This is located about 150 yards west-north-west along the A404 Rickmansworth Road (A404) from the The Café on the Common. For anyone who uses the “What3Words” location App or website, this car park is at “///barks.bucket.light”. In the unlikely event that this car park is full then park instead in the nearby Chorleywood House Estate Car Park at “///tricky.roses.woods”
Before we start walking we will call in at The Café on the Common, ”///loser.member.bleak” (sounds ominous) for coffee and toilets.
