This is a coach outing to The Royal Armouries at Fort Nelson, in Portsmouth to see the powerful installation ‘For Your Tomorrow’ created by the charity "Standing with Giants". The Royal Armories stepped in to host this following a nation-wide appeal for a venue to ensure it will be on display in time for Remembrance Day, 80 years after the Second World War ended.
In 2024, Standing with Giants installed a staggering 1,475 silhouettes across the wild meadow fields of the British Normandy Memorial called ‘For Your Tomorrow’. The 1,475 giants reflect the number of servicemen who died serving under British command on D-Day itself. Hundreds of thousands of visitors saw this installation at The British Normandy Memorial , in Ver-sur-Mer, France as part of the D-Day 80 commemorations from 21st April 2024 - 31st August 2024. The tribute has been shipped back to the UK.
In addition, there is a museum at the Royal Armouries which is well worth a visit and a cafe on site. One of our members visited the exhibition with her husband has given it a glowing report saying “It is fantastic and I really recommend it. Fort Nelson has a lot to see anyway plus beautiful views down into the city. It is a very moving exhibition”
The coach on 2nd December will leave Ashford at 10am and return leaving Portsmouth at 4pm. The cost is £22 which includes a £5 donation, which they suggest, and a tip for the driver.
