Route: From Richmond Station we walk across Richmond Green to the river. We follow the towpath passing under Richmond Bridge to some boatyards. Here we leave the river to the Terrace Gardens and the Hollyhock café for coffee. The walk continues up to the top of Richmond Hill and the famous view west to the Thames much favoured by artists. We enter the Park via Richmond Gate and follow footpaths to the Pen Ponds. Taking a circular route we reach the Pembroke Lodge after 3.5 miles and our stop for lunch. The walk then descends to the Petersham Gate, its church and grave of Captain Vancouver.
We cross Petersham Meadow to the river and return to Richmond station via the Lanes.
Toilets are available at the start/finish at Richmond Station, the Hollyhock Café and Pembroke Lodge.
Take a picnic for lunch if the weather is fine or purchase a lunch at Pembroke Lodge.
