A lovely circular walk from Newlands Corner on the North Downs Way (568 ft), across Albury Down with its open views of the Surrey Hills, up to St Matha’s Hill.
This entails a strenuous climb (to be taken at your own pace) up a sandy track to St Martha’s Church (573 ft), where we will take a leisurely elevenses/early picnic lunch and admire the stunning views across to the South Downs.
The return takes a loop through Chantries Wood, lanes and farm tracks, before a more gradual ascent back to Newlands Corner.
Refreshments back at Newlands Corner, or you may like to drive down into Shere, where there are tea-shops, ice-creams and a pub – but parking can be very tight in Shere.
Meet: Newlands Corner car park (where coffee and toilets are available) to start the walk at 10.30.
Leaders: Chris and Ian
