The Walking Group Coach Trip this year is to the South Downs. We will do an 8.5 mile circular walk from Singleton, based around the Fancy Free Walk here: https://www.fancyfreewalks.org/W.Sussex/Singleton.pdf?version=1705
We will start the walk in Singleton (point 5 of the Fancy Free Walk) and proceed anticlockwise, heading for the South Downs Way. The walk will not be recce’d beforehand, so everyone will have to be a bit flexible in case things don’t go quite to plan! Even though this is a Fancy Free walk, it will be led by one of the Walking Group Leaders (although you are welcome to follow along with the description).
When we arrive by coach, we will go into the Waterside Cafe (at the entrance to the Weald & Downland Museum) for a coffee and loo stop. The aim is to leave by 11am. We plan to stop for an early-ish lunch (about 12.30) at the Cadence Clubhouse (GU29 OHT). They do a basic menu, but it varies depending on location and availability - a sample menu is here: https://cadencecycle.club/menu. There is an option to bring your own lunch if you wish, although you will probably have to eat this outside the cafe. At the end of the walk we will be back at the Weald & Downland Museum, so there is an opportunity for another cafe and loo stop at the Waterside Cafe.
The walk is listed as easy to moderate. There will almost certainly be inclines and maybe some hills (we will be on the South Downs!) but we can take it at a fairly easy pace.
We are hiring a 51 seater coach and the Walking Group have first refusal for the places. The coach has been booked already:
Outbound - Meet 8.15 for 8.30am departure from Ashford High Street (in the lay-by outside the old Multi-Storey Car Park).
Inbound - Meet 4.45pm for 5.00pm departure from Weald & Downland Museum.
Cost is £20 per person including drivers tip. We are extremely grateful to Lesley O'Malley who has organised this.
If you wish to visit the museum instead of doing the walk, the extra cost is £13 for entry to the museum and an extra £2 if you want a tour (making £35 in total or £33 if you don’t want the tour). Please note there will not be time to visit the museum and to do the walk.
