Note the new date as the original walk had to be postponed
(This walk has not been recced).
An interesting walk via Finsbury Park alongside the New River and through the Abney Park Cemetery in Stoke Newington. We then go via the Hackney Marches by the River Lee and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The walk will finish at Hackney Wick station which will make for an easier start for the next stage.
There are no toilets at the start of the walk but there are toilets at Richmond station. We shall stop in Finsbury Park for an early coffee and toilets. There's also a cafe and toilets in Clissold Park after about 3½ miles. Lunch will be by the River Lea and Lea Navigation so please remember to bring some sandwiches.
Meet: Either join the group at Ashford Railway Station at 09.25 for the 09.44 train to Richmond or meet at Richmond Railway Station at 10.00. From Richmond we shall use the London Overground to Crouch Hill via Gospel Oak. Our return will be London Overground from Hackney Wick (or Stratford*) to Richmond.
The cheapest option is to buy two single off-peak tickets. Out Ashford/Staines to Crouch Hill (via Gospel Oak) and return Stratford* to Ashford/Staines.
The more flexible but expensive option is an Off –Peak Day Travel Card ticket using a Senior Rail Card (if you have one) or a Group Off –Peak Day Travel Card for a group of three.
*Please note as there are no toilets at Hackney Wick station, we could to travel one stop to Stratford station to use toilets before returning to Richmond. (Hence the return ticket from Stratford).
