Basingstoke Canal from Woking to Brookwood – approx. 5 miles (flat, moderate pace)

A flat easy walk, at a moderate pace, from Woking to Brookwood. The towpath may be muddy –poles will be useful if there has been recent rain. There is some road walking in Woking Town Centre and Brookwood. Parking in Woking is difficult and expensive so we begin in Chertsey with a bus journey of ½ hour to Woking. 

Parking/transport: Park in Staines Lane, Chertsey KT16 8PS (free on-road parking) at ± 09:45 to catch the 446 bus at 10:10. Allow ± 5 mins walk to the bus stop at Colonel’s Lane, by Abbeyfields.  

Directions: From Staines Road (A320), immediately after the M3 bridge take the left-hand lane towards Chertsey Town Centre (B375) into St Ann’s Road, then where it bears right and becomes Windsor Street, turn sharp left into Staines Lane - no-through-road.  From Chertsey Bridge follow (B375) Bridge Road/London Street/Windsor Street to the left-hand bend where it becomes St Ann’s Road, turn sharp right at Abbeyfields into Staines Lane. One of us will stand at the corner to direct you.

Bring bus pass and Senior Railcard, if possible, otherwise organise groups of three or more for reduced train fares - £2.70 single. At Woking ticket office we will purchase tickets for the return journey from Brookwood.

Comfort break: from Woking station 5 minutes to Wolsey Walk toilets.  
Coffee & Lunch: after 2 miles in St John’s. Benches on the green opposite in St John’s Lye.

The train from Brookwood is one stop to Woking.
